Inspired by our nonprofit, Beyond the Surface the film, visits the Kovalam Surf Club and highlights the youth who are taking to surf like their lives depend on it. The film also explores the nascent movement for women's surfing. Through the film, we highlighted several women in India who are using the natural environment as a tool to empower themselves. The film became the catalyst for our participatory audiovisual storytelling and creative arts workshops, Coast 2 Coast, after observing the groms from the Kovalam Surf Club watching themselves up on the big screen. It was if the piece of film edged them into world history and became as a testament to their existence. By founding Coast 2 Coast,  we sought to bridge a digital divide and enable kids with media tools and the training to share their own stories using their own voices and images.
