Umbul Umbuls are ritual flags from Bali that represent welcome and celebration. These flags are seen in Balinese temples, gardens, houses, restaurants, and along Bali's tropical beaches. Combined with the Tibetan tradition of flags representing the five elements (blue for sky or space; white for air or clouds; red for fire; green for water and yellow for earth), we organized a day of art with residents from the Bali Life Foundation's orphanage. The kids were asked to inquire within themselves what made them the happiest and how they could generate that happiness for others. We closed our eyes and noticed with curiosity and acceptance what emerged from our deepest self. The young children then each created their own flags depicting their dreams that were then hung in the wind outside the orphanage.
